Comprehensive Dentistry
Dentistry has come a long way with an approach aimed at preventing many problems from developing down the road. We, at PEARLIQUE, believe in prevention and early detection to halt the progression of any problems and to promote optimal dental health. We strive to keep your smile healthy and confident for a lifetime!
Comprehensive Dentistry Overview
In the past, you would go to the dentist if a tooth hurt to get it treated or pulled out. Today, dentistry has come a long way. We now offer complete dental care with prevention, treatment, and restoration. Comprehensive dentistry is a holistic approach to maintaining your oral health, which has an impact on your overall health.
Comprehensive Exams
We perform a comprehensive exam to check for any existing issues or those that may be developing, and also examine patterns in your oral care, your bite, and even changes in your health that may cause future problems.
Your comprehensive exam will begin with x-rays to reveal any tooth decay, bone loss, or any potential problems. We also conduct a periodontal exam to ensure you are free of gum disease, also known as periodontal disease.
We will examine your teeth, one tooth at a time to look out for signs of decay, chips, cracks, or any other damage. We also conduct an oral cancer screening, which can be life-saving.
At the conclusion of your comprehensive exam, we will recommend any preventative, restorative, or cosmetic procedures you may need to keep your smile at its best. Together, we will devise an individualized treatment plan based on your unique needs.
Professional Cleaning
Your routine professional cleanings are a necessary comprehensive dentistry component. They promote oral health by helping reduce the risk of developing gingivitis, bleeding gums, cavities, bad breath, and tooth loss.
During your professional cleaning, our dental hygienist will remove any plaque or tartar buildup around your gum line and in between your teeth using a scaler. Next, a gritty polisher is used to remove any remaining tartar, and professional flossing ensures no plaque remains between your teeth. You will love your squeaky clean smile!
Oral Cancer Screening
Oral Cancer is said to be one the deadliest because it often goes undetected until it is in the latter stages. That is another reason why regular dental examinations are so critical. If caught and treated early, oral cancer has a very low morbidity rate. With roughly 30,000 new cases being diagnosed each year, your dentist is your first line of detection and defense against this disease.
Oral cancer can affect the lips, cheek lining, gums, tongue, floor and roof of the mouth, and also move back toward the throat.
Always report to PEARLIQUE if you discover any of these possible signs:
- Sores that bleed easily or do not heal
- Lumps or spots that are thick or hard
- Persistently rough or crusted areas
- Numbness, pain or tenderness that may be new or persisting
During your regular dental exam, We will ask if you notice problems chewing, swallowing, speaking or moving any part of your mouth or tongue.
Fluoride Treatments
Research indicates fluoride can help prevent cavities in children and adults in at least two ways:
- Making the tooth enamel stronger against acids in the mouth formed by bacteria and sugar
- Helping to reduce the amount of bacteria on the tooth surface
Water fluoridation is a common practice in U.S. public water systems. However, bottled water, home treatment systems, and private well water may not be fluoridated. The lack of fluoride for infants and children during the crucial formative years may contribute to tooth decay.
“Topical” applications such as toothpaste and mouth rinses can supply that fluoride. If you’re concerned about getting enough fluoride to protect your teeth, PEARLIQUE offers fluoride treatments in the office to make sure all teeth receive the benefits of fluoride.
Sealants
Dental sealants are a great tool for preventing cavities in hard-to-reach areas and on teeth that have deep crevices. They are typically recommended for children between ages 6 and 14, but patients of virtually all ages can benefit from their application. Dental sealants are made from specially designed dental resin or plastic. They are carefully applied in liquid form onto the back teeth in a thin layer. The sealant then quickly hardens and bonds directly onto the tooth, sometimes with the aid of a curing light. Sealants can remain effective for as long as a decade, but they still should be checked for wear during every dental check-up.
Oral Care At-Home
Brush at least twice a day, floss daily, and rinse with antimicrobial mouthwash daily to keep your teeth clean and healthy. Meticulous oral care at home will prevent many dental problems from surfacing.
